Japanese

Community Lounge

At Sabo Amstelveen, we run a community lounge where Japanese people living in the Netherlands can casually connect with each other. The space supports participants’ own activities and gatherings. For example, there is the “Thursday Meeting” and the “Handicraft Club,” where people share the joy of making things by hand.

We aim to continue nurturing this welcoming and lively space—a place where “you can always meet someone.”

Otona no manabi-ba

The Netherlands is home to experts active in many different fields. In our monthly event, “Otona no manabi-ba” (Learning for adults), we invite such individuals as guest speakers to share their fascinating stories.

This is more than just a meetup. In addition to the talks, participants and speakers engage in open, equal connections and discussions, fostering a community that grows from these interactions.

So far, we have welcomed a diverse range of speakers, including monks, doctors, fashion designers, artists, and musicians. People gather here to meet individuals they might not encounter in Japan and to have meaningful, in-depth conversations.

Support for partner organizations

Organizations that share our goals carry out their own activities according to their missions. These include lectures, Japanese conversation groups, activities and music events at Dutch senior facilities, and more.

We support these initiatives, helping them grow and strengthen connections—not only among members but also between the Japanese community and Dutch society.
